Screencast from How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice

David Kinnane · 9 April 2021 ·

This screencast is part of my new book + video course, “How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice”. Learn more about it here.

I wrote the book for speech pathologists in private practice who wanted to improve their supervision of staff. It covers professional, functional, workflow and private practice competencies. It also looks at strategic projects, training and development, and team communications.

It reviews supervision approaches and discusses calibrating supervision to each employee including star employees, weaker performers, perfectionists, part-time employees, and mobile, distributed and remote teams.

In this screencast, I go over why you should supervise your staff properly, an overview of how you go about doing that, and outcomes for staff, your practice and the profession.

If you enjoyed this screencast, check out my new book + video course, “How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice”.

It’s 210-pages of theory and practice on fundamental topics like how to supervise, how to create a hospitable environment, how to stop micromanaging and how to supervise employees with different competencies and skills.

It also includes supervision templates and forms we use in our clinic and over 4 hours of screencasts providing step-by-step training on how to run a supervision session with employees of different levels of experience and competence; and how to design and implement a supervision system that works.

How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice: Launch Date – 8 April 2021

David Kinnane · 6 April 2021 ·

When I started this book on Boxing Day 2020, I was expecting to end up with a tiny book of practical supervision tips and tricks I use in my practice everyday. I thought it would be about 40 pages long – a bit like my Launch to Waitlist guide, and that I’d have it done by February.

Fast forward to today and, having spoken with scores of speech pathologists on the front line, and having reviewed over 150 articles and books on the topic, we now have a 210-page book, as well as a companion set of templates and forms, and a video training package!

Supervision Forms and Templates

Now for our launch details!

I wrote the book for speech pathologists at all stages of their careers. I didn’t want to release a one-size-fits all format, so I’ve put together three packages so you can choose the one that works best for you:

1. The Bare Essentials

  • The 210-page book in PDF format.

2. The Execution Package

  • The 210-page book in PDF format.

    • Workflow Competences (Google Form)
    • Core Competencies Evaluation (Google Form)
    • Leadership Competencies Self-Assessment (Google Form)
    • Weekly Supervision Meeting Agenda and Action List (Word)
    • Supervisor Cues (Word)
    • Supervisor Feedback and Action Consolidator (Word)
    • Weekly Management Email Template (Google Docs)
    • Quarterly Performance Snapshot (Google Form).

3. The Complete Package

  • The 210-page book in PDF format.
  • The fully editable supervision templates and forms we use in our practice based on our recommendations in the book.
  • More than 4 hours of step-by-step training videos on how:
    • exactly, to run a supervision session with employees of different levels of experience and competence; and
    • to design and implement a supervision system that works.

The packages are going to be priced at $39, $79 and $179, respectively. But, to celebrate the launch and to thank you for supporting me while I put this all together, everything is going to be 25% off for the first 3 days.

That means the prices are going to be:

How to supervise speech pathologists properly in private practice – change of launch date

David Kinnane · 17 March 2021 ·

A few weeks ago, I announced that we were launching the supervision book on 16 March. It seems I was a bit ambitious! Getting the book ready for release is a lot more work than I expected. I’ve been working on it every spare moment, but it’s not quite ready.

Another free sample: “How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice”

David Kinnane · 10 February 2021 ·

Here’s a quick update about our supervision book: How to Supervise Speech Pathologists Properly in Private Practice.

We’ve finished the text, covering topics like:

  • the eight fundamentals of a good supervision system;
  • practical do’s and don’ts for supervisors when setting up supervision systems;
  • the two key functions of supervision;
  • flexible supervision practices mapped to different workflows, combining direct supervision and coaching approaches;
  • using supervision to create a hospitable work environment for everyone;
  • how to stop micromanaging and under-supervising staff;
  • key strategies to reduce staff burn out, turnover and attrition;
  • practical strategies to manage stars, weaker performers, perfectionists, part-time and remote employees;
  • how to take feedback and to improve self-awareness about your supervision skills and systems;
  • common sense HR policies and practices;
  • marketing good supervision as an investment and strategic advantage; and
  • executing supervision systems in private practice.

Up next, we’re editing the book to get rid of fluff, so it’s easy to read and to use in your practice.

We’ve also decided to pick a launch date!

The book will be available on 16 March 2021, so mark your calendars! 🙂

In the meantime, if you haven’t already signed up to receive updates from us, you can check out another free preview. This time we explain why we should adopt a more expansive view of what supervision is and involves in private practice; and why practice owners should lead the way. Sign up below for the new sample chapter.

As always, we’d love your feedback on what you’ve seen so far. Please reach out to me and let me know what you think.
