GIF-based video models of social idioms in context. In this 8-page no-prep resource we focus on the idiom: ‘don’t sound like a broken record’.

An idiom is a group of words which have a different meaning when used together from the one they would have if you took the meaning of each word separately. For example:

“You’re on fire today!” means you are very enthusiastic, excited or passionate about something.

“Keep your hair on!” means “stay calm!”

As children get older, they may notice that their parents, teachers and friends using lots of idioms in conversation. In this resource we explain the idiom ‘don’t sound like a broken record’, discuss why it isn’t optimal to sound like a broken record, remind students about conversation basics and provide suggestions about how to improve conversations.
