Description

Serious debate rages about whether English actually has a future tense. Nonetheless, at around 48-60 months of age, typically developing children start to use “going to” combined with verbs in their bare infinitive form (e.g. “sing”) to talk about things that will happen in the future, e.g. “Tomorrow, the girl is going to sing”.

Most people learn the how to use “going to” without needing to be taught explicitly about it. However, people learning English as a second language and/or people with developmental language disorders sometimes don’t pick up this pattern automatically.
