The problem
In class children are asked to write a story, and they know what makes one good – with a character, plot, and descriptions – but putting those pieces together into one that flows is where it becomes difficult.
The holidays
The holidays give kids room to build that skill without a due date hanging over them, in small groups, with no school-term pressure.
The outcome
Students want to share what they’ve written, instead of avoiding writing time altogether.
Overview
- Bridges the gap between telling a story out loud and writing it down
- Builds a toolkit for planning a story from idea to finished piece
- Focuses on characters worth reading about and scenes that actually move
What your child will learn
- Planning a story arc with a clear beginning, complication and resolution
- Building characters through action and dialogue, not just description
- Show, don’t tell: writing scenes with sensory detail and pace
- Varying sentence structure so writing reads smoothly when read aloud

Our clinic is directly opposite North Strathfield station on the T9 Northern Line.
