Description

Speech therapy is not just for preschoolers.

Plenty of older children, teenagers and adults have residual speech sound errors, including lisps, /r/ and /l/ sounds that sometimes fade to /w/ and problems with “th”.  Usually, they don’t get in the way of being understood, but they can have social costs. Research shows that people with residual speech sound errors are often judged, their intelligence and competence underestimated.

When you’re old enough to read, why waste time on flashcards and sentences? In this pack of resources, we include tricky, sound-loaded stories that are not for preschoolers!

In this first 64-page volume, we tackle a group of sounds that cause all sorts of bother to so many people: the alveolar sounds /s/, /z/, /t/, /d/, /n/, and /l/:

  • /s/ – Sally Runs Away From the Circus
  • /s/ – Sam’s Sickie
  • /z/ – Zack’s Zoo
  • /t/ – Ted and Terry
  • /d/ – Dad’s Den
  • /n/ – Ned and the Knight
  • /l/ – Lazy Lee Larkins
  • /l/ – Lotto the Lyrebird
  • /s/, /z/, /t/, /n/, /d/, /l/ – The Ballad of Dr Snell QC
  • /s/, /z/, /t/, /n/, /d/, /l/ – To the Bitter End

The stories are made available in both regular and large font sizes.
