Description

At around 48-54 months of age, typically developing children start to make in/out group distinctions when classifying objects into categories, often based on their knowledge of the world. Some people – including people learning English as an additional language, people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and people with language disorders – have difficulties doing this.

This 29-page no preparation pack is designed to help people who have difficulties naming objects in common categories. Using words and pictures, this pack is designed to stimulate the development of semantic knowledge and verbal reasoning skills to help people of all ages to name objects in common categories.

When working with students, accept any logical answer. To make the exercise more difficult, we’ve included a very common example in each category named, requiring the child to consider the example and then think of and name another object in the same category. We’ve included both categories and subcategories.
