Description

At around 31-34 months, most typically-developing children start to use “he” and “she” correctly. But many people – including people learning English as an additional language, and people with language or learning disorders – have ongoing difficulties with “he” and “she”.

In this 41-page no-preparation pack, we introduce “he” and “she”, individually. Then we mix the targets, before moving into simple sentences using high frequency verbs and early “emotion” adjectives. We have also included “he” and “she” with the so-called “uncontractable copula” – “He is” and “She is”, and a simple board game. This resource features simple pictures and writing and is suitable for people of all ages.

Special note: To help students “master the basic rules” before tackling exceptions, we have tried to keep this resource as simple as possible. As such, we have used conventional subjective pronouns – “he” and “she” – to refer to males and females. In this resource, we do not address other pronouns used by people who do not identify as either male or female, or who do not otherwise accept or apply binary pronouns. This reflects the narrow syntactical goals of this resource, and does not reflect any ideological or political perspective.
