(N109) NDIS Waste Management Policy and Procedures

$50.00 including GST

If you are an NDIS Provider, the National Disability Insurance Scheme Practice Standards and Quality Indicators require you to have waste management policies and procedures to protect participants, workers and others who work with you from harm, including from harms caused by exposure to waste, or from infectious or hazardous substances generated during the delivery of your supports and services.

The 8-page policy template covers general, clinical, clinical sharps, and pharmaceutical waste. For many NDIS Providers, the focus will be on managing general waste. However, some NDIS Providers provide health or clinical services to participants, and may also also need to address the management of clinical, clinical sharps, and, potentially, pharmaceutical waste flows, too.

Description

If you are an NDIS Provider, the National Disability Insurance Scheme Practice Standards and Quality Indicators require you to have waste management policies and procedures to protect participants, workers and others who work with you from harm, including from harms caused by exposure to waste, or from infectious or hazardous substances generated during the delivery of your supports and services.

This Policy template is designed to work with your Incident Management and Reportable Incidents System Policy and Procedures and your Infection Control Policy to:

  • set out your policies, procedures, and practices for the safe and appropriate classification, storage and disposal of waste, infectious or hazardous substances;
  • require incidents involving infectious material, body substances or hazardous substances to be reported, recorded investigated and reviewed in accordance with legal requirements;
  • apply your emergency plan to respond to clinical waste and hazardous substance management issues and/or accidents; and
  • require that workers involved in the management of waste and hazardous materials receive training to ensure safe and appropriate handling, including training on any protective equipment and clothing required when handling waste or hazardous substances.

Please note that this policy template does not cover specialist waste flows outside the normal scope of disability services, like cytotoxic, radioactive, or anatomical waste flows. If you produce or encounter these types of waste in your business, you will need additional, specialist procedures to manage those waste flows safely.
